Over 1500 Shells Missing Believed Stolen
Southern, Israel Israel Defense Force (IDF) personnel discovered a major discrepancy during a routine storage magazine count from a facility in Negev, Ynet. The discrepancy included over 1,500 shells reported only as tank shells missing from the storage magazines. Authorities suspect the munitions were stolen over a period time to avoid detection.
There are concerns that the shells may have gotten into the hands of terrorists. There are also concerns that the theft may have been aided by IDF personnel at the base. Israel military sources also suspect that a gang of Arab metal thieves that operates in the area is behind the theft. The gangs have recently been stepping up their attacks on IDF bases. A full investigation is currently underway.
